The 2009 John Webb Winter Golf Tournament is DONE and COMING SOON!

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 by Jody Neufeld

The 2009 John Webb Winter Golf Tournament – the seventh tournament – was played on January 31, 2009. It was a sunny, crisp day at Scenic Hills Country Club; a beautiful day to play golf. The clubhouse is beautiful after a post-Hurricane Ivan renovation! The staff, including golf event coordinator, Jason Young, were professional, friendly, and accommodating to volunteers and golfers alike.

John Webb, now a retired professional baseball player and currently coaching baseball where he lives in Scottsdale, AZ, announced that the tournament would now be played in October each year. “We want to continue to bring a charity golf tournament that is fun and raises money to support local children who must fight life-threatening illnesses. We will hold our first October tournament on October 10, 2009.”

2008 Tournament Report

Monday, August 25th, 2008 by admin

Despite near hurricane conditions, the 2008 John Webb Winter Golf Tournament lived! Thanks to some wise and hard-working volunteers and the staff of Tiger Point Golf and Country Club the decision was made in the early morning hours of January 18th to continue with the luncheon and auction and raffle.

The faces of the children we visited the day before at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital (SHCH) were fresh in our minds. There were so many extraordinary items that had been generously donated. We could not let the children down! Expenses were made. Money is in our foundation for the children and maybe the best was yet to come –

My wife, Megan, and I made the decision to accept an offer from the Pensacola Pelicans for me to play baseball. Megan and my sons stayed in Arizona and worked very hard to make this possible. 96 games later, the Pelicans won 43 games and the children at SHCH received some ‘wins’ also! We had a night at the park for some of the children and their families. They ate food catered from Jerry’s Cajun Café, watched a game, got many pictures and autographs, and we hope some fun time! We also auctioned one of my jerseys and received a $2,000 bid!

You will soon be reading that the JWWGT will come under the umbrella of The James Webb Foundation. We are grateful for the time and effort that Pacesetters Bible School has given in launching us as a mission outreach of their ministry. Now it is time for us to continue on under our own 501(C)3 organization.
